Sandie Wollasch „Women’s Choice“
It should feel good. ‘It Has To Feel Good’. The first song says it all. Sandie Wollasch has released another great album with ‘Women’s Choice’. Together with the famous Klaus Wagenleiter Trio as her backing band, the singer invited women from very different genres. ‘Without the Perspektive Pop grant, this would never have been possible,’ says the songwriter.
Soloists, singers and even Les Escapades, the well-known viol consort from Karlsruhe, put a special stamp on the album. Her long-time co-lyricist Inga Brock is also back. ‘People who have grown close to my heart,’ says Wollasch about her comrades-in-arms. The Klaus Wagenleiter Trio, which also arranged Wollasch’s compositions, with Klaus Wagenleiter on keys, Decebal Badila on bass and Guido Jöris on drums, provides more than just the foundation. There is probably no other band in the south-west that grooves like this – with obvious ease and sophistication at the same time. The guests have their rightful place in the arrangements. There is Andrea Ritter on the recorder. A rather unusual instrument for jazz, she enhances ‘And He Could Kiss’ and ‘Miracle Healer’. Saxophonist Michelle Labonte characterises the song ‘It Has To Feel Good’. On ‘Good Woman’, Sandie Wollasch presents dreamlike harmonies together with Sarah Lipfert and Sandrine Neye. ‘I Was Wrong’, a duet with Sandrine Neye, comes across like a feature film song when the violas da gamba creep into the ear.
‘This album shows us as we are … female, male, different, special, courageous, fearful, abysmal, full of joy, full of talent, full of love,’ says Sandie Wollasch. There’s nothing to add to that. Except: it should feel good. And it does.
